The foundation of a successful Geographic Information System is accurate and reliable data. We use the latest technologies to create, assemble, and validate GIS-ready data. Regardless of your application,   natural resources, utilities, urban planning, land use, soils, roads, or others, we can assist you in creating reliable GIS data.  Our years of experience in data services and operations and our sensitivity to customer needs assure the highest standards in data development.
GIS Data Compilation

Geospatial data:

  • USGS
  • ETAK roads
  • US EPA
  • BLM
  • Private timber companies
  • State water resources
  • County real estate
  • City infrastructure

Tremendous amounts of existing digital map data are available for GIS use from public and private sources. The careful use of this data substantially reduces the time and cost of the GIS database development. GRS assists clients in finding appropriate existing data sources and compiling these varied data sources into a unified GIS database.

Long Valley, CA GRS also offers complete Remote Sensing data sets and maps.

Data Conversion/Digitizing

The greatest single cost in implementing a GIS is the conversion of printed maps to digital format. GRS works with clients to develop conversion specifications and provides high quality digitizing and scanning services with complete data verification to assure the value of this investment. Final output is available in all major GIS formats.Data conversion

Data Cleaning and Validation

GIS data can easily become riddled with errors that can eventually create slow access speeds, large file sizes, and inaccurate design elements. GRS has developed software and special data cleaning processes that remove such errors from GIS data. After GRS's cutting-edge data processing, unmatched intersections, unsnapped lines, duplicate elements, and any other common or data-specific errors will all be removed and output to clean files.

GRS also offers software built specifically for this kind of data cleaning. Free demos and more information are available on the GRS Software page.

Digital Photo Interpretation

Vector + photo = GIS

GRS has the facilities and the expertise to produce high quality vector maps from your existing digital ortho-photo quad (DOQ). We will match the DOQ to an existing vector map, or create a new map based on the DOQ. GPS waypoints may be used for additional precision in this process. The end result is highly accurate GIS data with which you can visualize your project efficiently and precisely.

Custom Data Translation

Conversion between:

  • IGDS (Intergraph)
  • ARC/INFO (ERSI)
  • DXF (Autodesk)
  • MOSS
  • DLG DEM
  • DIME
  • TIGER
  • DRIS

GRS specializes in complex GIS file translations between all of the widespread digital formats. We are able to utilize data of many file types for translation, compilation, plotting, and updating. GRS develops translators and provides custom file translation for non-standard graphic and attribute formats. GRS also analyzes and converts databases to relate them within an existing GIS system.

Cartographic Plotting

GRS can plot your maps using your exact specifications. GRS offers cartographic services for most major graphic formats. We can produce finished size A through E plots customized to meet your design requirements.

Off-Site GIS Management

For public and private organizations that require GIS functionality, but don't have the necessary technology or trained personnel, GRS will design and implement GIS projects and actively manage and operate projects on our extensive systems to fulfill client information and analysis needs.
