Home Spatial Analysis and Modeling Fire Exposure Modeling

Fire Exposure Modeling

GRS was selected by the Municipality of Anchorage (MOA) to perform a fire hazard and exposure modeling analysis in the Wildland Urban Interface (WUI).

GRS integrated fuels, topography, weather, into a fire hazard model and then combined hazard, ignition risk, values at risk, and suppression constraints develop a fire-exposure model for the MOA urban-wildland interface.  GRS implemented the conceptual model in the GRS using ArcObjects to created an interactive model that allows users to select the input themes and adjust parameter weights and adjustment factors.  GRS also developed a mobile fire mapping package that allows firefighters to map fire-incident features in the field on a PDA using GPS and ArcPad mapping software. The models and data are now available to planners and managers through a decision support system that allows the users to evaluate incident scenarios and mitigation strategies.
